Afterschool, Before Care, and Summer Enrichment Programs of Somersworth Elementary and Middle Schools

Somersworth Youth Connection (SYC) programs are designed to provide quality programming at very affordable costs to families, through a combination of funding sources. Our mission is to extend student learning beyond the school day, and to provide students with a safe and enriching atmosphere, where their connections with peers, caring adults, themselves, and their community can grow. Our programs are led and supported by school day certified staff, local business/non-profit leaders, community leaders, industry specialists, university extension programs, interns, and volunteers.

Aspects of literacy, science, technology, engineering, math, art, wellness (physical, social & emotional), community service, and civic engagement are woven throughout our programming. Enrichment offering examples include: Robotics, Knitting, Snow Shoeing, Mad Science, Yoga, Intramural Sports, and much, much, more.

For 15 years SYC was in large part funded by the Federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, administered by the NH DOE. However, after receiving the grant for 3 full (five year) cycles, our program has become self-sustaining, thanks to school and city leaders, community members, and businesses! This is a very exciting achievement, as it has been something we have worked toward for 15 years, and has been a requirement of the grant.
